To Get a Concealed Weapon in California, Do I Need Fire Firm Training
The training is specific to the category of people mentioned in the introduction. For example, an active or honorably retired member of the US Armed Forces, peace officers, and law enforcement agents may be exempt from taking a firearms course.
The training course will be of at least 8 hours and will include live-fire shooting drills. The licensing authority may not require 16-hour or 24-hour community college courses certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training for license renewal applicants.
Here is the procedure for getting a permit for a concealed weapon in California
- You’ll need to complete an approved firearms training course by the county’s sheriffs or local police office before you’re allowed to apply for your CCW permit.
- You may need to undergo a psychological test if your county has deemed it necessary.
- You must download the application and you have to fill in Sections 1 to 5 on your own. And Sections 6, 7, and 8 must be fulfilled by the Licensing Agency.
Note – In section 7 you cannot fill anything without the permission of the agency because in section 7 there are questions that you answer orally to the agency.
Once you complete your application, you’ll need to take it to your county sheriff’s office. You will also need the following:

• Proof of residency
• Proof of Identification
In this process, you will give your fingerprinted, photographed, and interviewed in front of county sheriffs.
- You should receive a response from your county within 90 days letting you know if you’re eligible or not.
Note – This Permit is valid for only 2 years. You will need to go through the renewal process (the licensing agency from which you received your permit/license) to get a concealed firearms license again in California. The renewal fees are around $25 to $100.
