I like them, Pirates! Me too. But hopefully, we did not suffer too much damage regarding one superstar first baseman Freddie Freeman, who limped out in the seventh inning on Thursday when the match with the Padres was still going and had his ankle attended to. Freddie Freeman could be seen rocking a walking boot and using crutches in the clubhouse after the Dodgers snatched up the NL West championship following a 7-2 victory.
Toward the end of the game, Freddie Freeman took X-rays that turned out to be negative. This provided some hope for the Dodgers that their star first base player could return when they begin playing wild card next Saturday game.
“It is swollen,” said Freddie Freeman. “It feels fine. There’s no reason to panic. But it seems they are very positive that I will be able to walk by working on plans for the playoffs on Saturday. That’s what I’m banking on. I’ve never rolled an ankle so I don’t know. It’s pretty large right now.”
Throughout the entire season, the Dodgers have experienced a lot of injuries.
Freddie Freeman exits with injury
Freddie Freeman suffered an injury while dashing to first to avoid a wide throw from the Padres’ second baseman, Jake Cronenworth. It was after Freeman stepped on the base that he went to slow down and incautiously rolled over his right ankle. Betts who had been on second base and watched what had just happened stood still in disbelief upon hitting the dirt.
But as he stepped off the field under the gaze of manager Dave Roberts and a trainer, the whole Dodger Stadium crowd held its breath. Kiké Hernández replaced Freddie Freeman at first base in the top of the 8th inning.
“I am not too anxious about it,” said Guggenheim Baseball Management LLC president Andrew Friedman. “There is no reason for us to put him in this game this weekend. We could have, possibly, if we wanted to. We don’t want to. So we will make sure that he is rested and he is properly prepared for top action next Saturday.”
Freddie Freeman will not accompany the team to their away games in Colorado that will conclude the regular season. On the other hand, he will remain behind to have more advanced therapy.
This was an unpleasant image the Dodgers fans witnessed at Dodger Stadium. But it looks as though the world champion Dodger avoided a fatal blow.
“It is a good thing that we are on break now to take care of this situation,” said Freddie Freeman. “I’m hopeful. I’ve never sprained my ankle so I can’t provide you with any possibility, but I’ll try my best.”
